An Ode To Norman

I think pets are important. I’m not one of those crazy pet owners that gets all offended if somebody doesn’t like my dog, in fact I’d rather know. That being said I love my pooch!!

Meet Norman

My little buddy

He comes on adventures with me/ sits in the car while I run quick errands.

He will hang out with my friends and I…sometimes

I may be slightly biased here but I’d say he is quite the stud

Well that’s Norman the little ball of fur..full of energy and a personality like no other! He’s just a dog, I understand but having this oblivious little creature to curl up with when I need to chill out, and tag along with me on my daily walks, well its just encouraging. I can’t help but smile when I look at him and when he’s playing with his toys it’s impossible not to laugh.

Not to mention we are twins.

Do you guys have pets? Do you find them so comforting? I’m definitely a dog person, not so big on cats, tell me what you think!

One Step at a Time

Sometimes I wish I could fast forward and see how things turn out, see if everything really will be OK. It seems when one problem is taken care of, another one is there, ready and waiting. Trying to see just how far it can push my limits until eventually, I break.

I know everything is in God’s hands, He has a reason for everything. All of it apart of his perfect plan for me. Honestly though, that’s getting harder and harder to believe. At risk of sounding melodramatic I can’t help but question why God would allow so much pain and misery. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I feel so selfish even saying that, because in all honesty I have a good life, materialistically speaking I have more than I need. Emotionally I have some of the most amazing supportive friends in the world, but that doesn’t take away the pain, the panic attacks, the memories, the fear.

The best I can do now is just take it day by day, there is no need to predict the future. It’s not for me to worry about, as long as I do the best I can in the moment. Things aren’t going to go my way, or as I planned but they will go exactly how God has planned them for me, and I need to just focus on that. He has guided me through the good and the bad for the past 20 years. I have no reason to doubt he is going to get me through this chapter. It’s all about faith I suppose.

Well I’m off to go on a walk with one of my friends, then we’ll probably come back here for coffee because,well it’s free! The best part of working at Starbucks?

You are never low on coffee or tea.

EVER.

And so the year begins

Hey everyone! Seems like you all had a great new years with family and friends! I sure did! Didn’t take many picture but went out with a bunch of friends and just enjoyed myself. I was definitely thankful to have the following day off work.

Other than that I have just been working and hanging out with my friends who are all home for the better part of January, until school starts again.

Which reminds me, school. I have not officially been registered for classes yet due to a mix up with my account, it should all be straightened out by tomorrow. Truthfully though, I feel totally unmotivated to start school. Had I not already made the commitment to start now I would be holding off and just working my a$$ off so that I can move out ASAP. That’s really all I am motivated to do right now, “fly the coupe” if you will. coming home from work today I realized just how unhappy I am at this house. With Diane constantly nagging me and (unknowingly ) demonstrating exactly the opposite of who I want to be, and all the tension between her and I it’s just not worth being here anymore, no matter how financially responsible it is. I have gone to extremes to be the opposite of her in the past, and I refuse to do that again, being around her is just so triggering and not worth the energy.

I have been getting plenty of hours at work which has been nice, got to save all that I can, while I can! Other than that it is the start of a new year…I have no resolutions. I just don’t think the beginning of a new year is really a fresh start. For some people it helps them to regroup. Personally I’d rather take it day by day. This year has been a crazy one for sure though.

It’s Almost January!?

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!! All in all mine was good, holidays always just stress me out, it’s a lot of family time AND a lot of time for my family to share their opinions on me what I should be doing ect.

I did enjoy lots of tea, though from this tea pot my brother got for me, it’s for loose leaf tea and the candle at the bottom keeps the tea warm!!

But this week is the best all my friends are home until the end of January and that is just soo encouraging to me! I Had a quick visit with Laura it was so refreshing seeing her again, we just had coffee (shocker I know) and exchanged gifts and hung out, I love you so much Laura!!! <3

I’m off to catch up with a friend for a little while before I meet a group of friends for movie night. They haven’t watched Black Swan yet!!! I told them this was unacceptable, its in my top 3 favorite movies of all time!

So my next few weeks will include much needed bonding time with friends, preparing for school, and working my a$$ off at Starbucks…but hey the pay is good and I need out of the house by summer!

This was Norman on Christmas day, yes I dress him up but only once a year. Ha I think he looks adorable!

Look forward to reading about everyones Christmases and thoughts, remember Christmas day may not have gone exceptionally well but that doesn’t mean today and the rest of break can’t!!

Not that I would actually stop taking my medication, but this week especially has been rough, and I think a hefty dose of Fukitol would do me a lot of good. Mine wasn’t all bad, I must say I did work a lot including babysitting and my friends are all coming home for Christmas break, YAAY!! I just watched a few kids I babysit for preform in the Nutcracker ballet, so adorable, and was able to finish Christmas shopping, glad that is taken care of! Hope everyone had a good week

Truth Be Told,

I’m exhausted. I thought a “gap” year would be so good for me. I thought, “I’ll go to Uganda, a place I care so much about and I’ll give back a little. I’ll learn about the culture, and just regroup.” Though I made friends there, and look forward to returning to Uganda that trip was pretty much a bust. I (unknowingly) went with a cult, and had to watch as an entire organization worked on brainwashing, not just the participants but entire nations. So after four months of that, I came home. Just as things were getting slippery here it was time for me to ~~run away~~ leave again. This time it was to go to China and earn some cash and get away from home. My logic this time? ”Maybe if I leave again and have an enjoyable experience, I will be able to move on, forgive my mom, and maybe just maybe find an ounce of happiness.” Well that trip was far from enjoyable, and ended up leaving me feeling completely alone, and miserable. So finally I decided enough is enough I’m going to come home and face everything head on. I did….well I started to. See as soon as I was honest and surrendered some control it all seemed to backfire, and cause nothing but drama. My “mother” was confronted and she managed to get away with it yet again. Now I’m back at square one. Stuck in a house with a lady who has been completely rotten, and merely puts up with me, yet somehow manages to come off as the victim.

Well the solution is simple right? Move out. I wont have to see her and while that can’t take my depression away it can relieve a great deal of triggers. If only it were that simple. See I have my job back at Starbucks, but at the same time I registered for classes today, I begin as a full time student January 23.

I’m excited to get going with school, excited to start working towards a career, and thrilled that I’m working towards something bigger than Starbucks. But with school come a time commitment. Time that I will not be able to make money, with a decrease and income and my savings pretty much gone after my year of traveling I can’t afford to move out. And knowing that school is what’s keeping me from moving out is making me less and less motivated.

I’ve been trying so hard to make the best of it, work as much as I can now, and then maybe by this summer I’ll be able to move out. I do apologize for all my complaining. In reality I know I have nothing to bitch about, I have a roof over my head, the most amazing friends anyone could ask for, a father who loves me unconditionally, and a steady income. I just keep waiting to “snap out of it” and I keep not being able to. I’m just starting to loose hope that I ever will.

Well on a brighter note on top of Starbucks I have been able to do a lot of babysitting, which pays more and I honestly love all the kids I watch, ranging from 4 months to 11 years. I find children so fascinating, and they are all so innocent and eager to learn. For whatever reason (maybe it’s necessity) when I’m babysitting I feel I’m most able to put the rest of my life on hold, and simply be in the moment.

In other news I’m very excited to for winter break because that means some of my best friends are coming home, nothing like having the people you love only a few minuets away! Sorry for the rant, and if you got to the end of this, thank you. I’ll leave you with this final picture taken just after my wisdom tooth surgery:

ha two of my teeth were impacted and the other two were taken out just because. Honestly the stitches caused more pain than the surgery itself, but I can happily report I’m feeling all better, and my mouth is well on its way to being completely healed!

Now We Can Listen to Christmas Music!

I do hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! I had a relaxing one myself, complete with all 9 Thanksgiving episodes of Friends. Its a yearly tradition on Thanksgiving my Dad and I have.

this show just never stops being funny to me.

I finally got rehired at Starbucks, and I am so happy about it!!! I think its the perfect job for me while I’m in school and I absolutely love the store I am at now, and my manager. I start again on Monday and begin school full time in January.

Sooo I have been making the best of my free time and visiting friends and drinking lots of coffee.

It’s always so encouraging to see them!

Father and I beasted 1 quart of wood that was ordered, we are set on wood for a couple years now:

I know this is a happy time of year and everyone is joyful and celebrating, but for me I think it’s miserable. The holidays are great, don’t get me wrong, but there is nothing more discouraging that being cold, or unable to go outside because of all the snow. Oh and it being pitch black by 4:30, I’m not a fan of that either. These past few weeks have been, for the most part extremely miserable and the weather certainly doesn’t help things one bit. Thankfully I have been able to get away, and have become a master at distracting myself! I am trying to keep a positive attitude best I can, the season will change again soon enough….hopefully sooner rather than later!!

Ramblings

It sure is good to be home, I definitely made the best decision by doing so. What’s next you ask?

Well for Starters I am reuniting with my friends:

In Boston, NYC, Ithaca, and at UCONN and URI!!

Last weekend I went to see Laura at UCONN

She has some of the nicest friends, might I add.

Managed to get a lot of Dr. Appointments out of the way, before I am kicked off the parent’s insurance

However I still have my Wisdom teeth removal surgery to look forward to

Starting in January I will be a FULL TIME student!! I am so excited to get started on all that. If all goes as planned I should be picking my classes by the end of next week!

I want a degree in Psych. I either want to work in a rehab as a counselor

Or as a Criminal Profiler…for the FBI.

Regardless I’m exciting to get back into formal education.

Most stressful at this point in time though, job hunting. Eventually I will be working back at Starbucks.

BUT I just don’t have the time or the money to wait around for an opening so I have been hunting for a job, one that I can quit when I get rehired, you guys, I am considering working for Dunkin’ Donuts. Am I a traitor or what!?

Thankfully babysitting will keep me busy enough until I can get a “real” job.

OH and no worries I have been drinking PLENTY of Coffee!

I’m stressed about not having a job yet, but I keep reminding myself I have only been home 10 days, and I have a boss that wants to hire me back, she just is working on getting her boss to approve it. Maybe now my being jobless is good, gives me time to breathe, regroup, and spend time with the people I have missed so, so much! And I can be thankful that I have plenty to occupy my time while I am free of any job commitments!

We’re Real Adults Now!

First off Check out THIS blog posted by The Oatmeal hehe it’s all random facts on, you guessed it, COFFEE!

Ok on to the post. The other night Lacey and I decided to stay in and cook for ourselves, yes I Tara Savage was going to cook for myself, most of you, and rightfully so are probably thinking “Uh-OH” BUT it actually went surprisingly well, we documented the event so I though I would share with you our meal, step by step. Happy reading, and enjoy the pictures!

First we purchased all the ingredients, for a grand total of 6 dollars!

Then we realized we actually weren’t sure what we were doing….

So I googled how to cook rice and boil corn, HA thank goodness for the all knowing Google.

Then we put water on for the rice, and Lacey took charge of that

Then washed all our veggies

…and began chopping away:

Next we put them in a pan, and began to stir-fry them, all but the broccoli, that we steamed.

We finished up with the rice, and boiled and husked the corn added seasoning to our dish,

ANDDDD

The Meal was a SUCCESS!

We even ate the meal with chopsticks…until the end when I succumbed to the fork.

Well we were proud of ourselves at least, we had it again with egg mixed in the stir fry and another time with chicken in there for protein! You may or may not have noticed the random bananas in the pictures. We each had one after dinner to get us ready for our run!

We have been running a few times a week here

Gotta love the runner’s high!
