A friend and I were talking the other day when she quite simply asked me, “What is hope?” this question made me think, what is hope, really? I said, personally I think hope is having faith that either things will improve or, the desire for something will actually become a reality. As we contimplated this idea of hope further we tried to determine a universal sign of hope. I suggested a piece sign or a dove, but honestly I don’t see a dove, and become filled with hope, and I am certain not everyone who sees a piece sign feels hopeful.

I suppose hope does not have one specific symbol, it comes from different places at different times for everyone.

Where it come from for me:

Relationships:

Memories & Experiences:

Simple Pleasures:

I suppose for me its the memories, good and bad, and the people that have been there for me through it all.

WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE?

The issue, of course, was courage.  How to behave. Whether to flee or fight or seek an accommodation.  The issue was not fearlessness. The issue was how to act wisely in spite of fear. Spiting the deep running biles:  that was true courage.  He believed this.  And he believed the obvious corollary:  the greater a man’s fear. The greater his potential courage.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

~1 Corinthians 13

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again. “

And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places. But all these things are the beginning of travail. Then shall they deliver you up unto tribulation, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all the nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many stumble, and shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray. And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold. But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. ~Matthew 24:6-13
