In seventh grade my classmates and I were given an assignment to write a letter to future selves, in the year of our graduation, 2010. Our teacher promised that the letter letters would be mailed to us towards the end of our senior year. Naturally I did not believe that they would follow through on this, but being the dorky little gal that I was (all right am) I excitedly plugged away at the letter! A couple of weeks ago I received a letter in the mail, it was addressed to Tara Savage class of 2010. Low and behold it was the letter I had written to myself in seventh grade! I thought I would share the letter with you all:
Dear Tara, (future self 2010)
Right now it is the Tuesday before February vacation you are 13. Do you remember 7th grade? Graduating would be the best ever…next to being famous and staring on friend which ended in ’04. My friends are Erinn and Laura Sensenigs who are moving to P.A. in a week from today. Jasmine, Ailin, kelsey *insert rest of friends names here* This year was great in terms of sports The Red Sox won the world series, and the patriots won the super bowl!! You listen to pop music Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson, and Avril Laveign are your favorites. You’ve decided that you will become a famous actress given that you can’t sing the happy birthday son on tune music wouldn’t be the best choice. Are you starting college right away as you planned? And auditioning for Big Brother to get your face on T.v. and then after that you’ll get a T.V. show, preferably talk show host. =) Do you remember “Rich and Famous“!! In December you moved your 6th and final time (as a family). How do you like driving? And have you kept all of your friends? Oh yeah, do the Sensenigs visit a lot? They were your closest friends do they enjoy P.A. It must have been hard they’ve lived here 8 1/2 years. You guys have been good friends for 8 1/2 years. Roller Coasters do you remember how you only grew to LOVE them? Superman ride of steal? How proud you were in 6th grade that you went on it!? Have any good ones come out yet? Did you get to go on the trip with Terry to Florida? I hope so shes really great.What about with the Sensenigs any vacations with them? Hey by now you must own all of the seasons of Friends by now thats really good. What I really hope happens is that Ross and Rachel’s wedding gets showed in either a reunion or on the Joey show. I wonder if it will still be on in 2010 I definitely hope so! Im going to own all of those seasons too =) Did you and Dad ever go away and watch all of the seasons of Friends in one week? Ha probably had second thoughts about that one! You enjoy reality T.V. shows, the simple life is one of them. I cant believe I like it but it’s sooo funny well @ least the intern one was. You also like Live with Regis and Kelly (Dad and your mom got you tickets to see it was it GREAT? I haven’t been yet. You also watch sitcoms, and love stand up comedy. Oh I cant forget you HATE Angelina Jolie she’s a little thing! Oh yeah you also like the American top 40 countdown. Are maise and kirby still alive I bet maise is about to collapse if she isn’t already dead yet =) LOL. Are Jen & Brad split? They have a formal separation now so I still have a ton of hope for them. They are the Golden Couple as you probably remember that awful day! =)Are you going to peruse your dream of being a famous actress & becoming rich and famous& of course meeting Jennifer Anniston and the entire cast of Friends? Oh & getting invited on Live with Regis and kelly & the tonight show & getting to meet Regis Philbin & Kelly Ripa!I can’t wait to drive & get a cellphone. Liam is more apt to loose a cellphone but he’s older & gets one & because he was a clumsy loose everything when he was my age I dont get one for a while. I really hope this is a fun thing to read in 2010. I wonder if I will move b4 then, & who will be newly famous & if in a few years from them I will be too. Do you remember Mr. Cioe? He is the BEST TEACHER EVER. (history and reading are what he taught you in 6th grade) and the book you read Jen and Brad the rise and fall of Hollywood’s golden couple. Here are 2 new shows cheers and happy days! Have you decided on what college yet? ru still gonna b a famous actress? or the next Kelly Ripa? =) Right now I’m wondering what you did for your senior project.

One really never knows what to expect in life, it’s funny to think how obsessed with Hollywood I was, considering I hardly have any clue who is famous today! My life has certainly not gone the way I had planned in my naive 7th grade mind. Had I written a letter in 8th grade it would have been totally different, my dreams and career goals would have not been even remotely similar to those of seventh grade. What I enjoyed most about his letter was the fact that the desires I had that actually mattered did come true.
The friends that I named are all people that I am still friendly with, Jasmine, Ailin, Kelsey still remain some of my closest friends and most importantly I have met some wonderful people, and have gained many amazing, true friends in years since. Erinn and Laura (and the whole sensenig family) are still some of my very best friends, them moving was hard but turned into one of the best things that could have happened, through them I have met some amazing people, who are now some of my best friends, and will remain that way for the rest of our lives.
It just goes to show that everything is in God’s hands, we may not be able to make sense of certain situations but there is a reason.I never dreamed I would be taking two years off between high school and college, and the idea of devoting my life to helping others had not yet crossed my mind. In my naive 18 year old brain I have the next 10 or so years planned out, however over the years I have gained enough insight to understand that these goals are more than subject to change, and life will take many unexpected turns but whatever happens I’m excited. I know that I will have my friends, and those who love me by my side on this Journey called LIFE.
